Overview

Dive into San Cristóbal de las Casas on an immersive 3-hour cultural and culinary walking tour designed for authentic travelers. We will explore the city from the inside out, connecting local history, street art, and the fascinating evolution of Chiapanecan gastronomy.

We meet at Plaza del Cerrillo to unpack the region's cultural ecosystem. From there, we venture into the bustling local market—a safe, colorful space to discover seasonal fruits and native ingredients like chiles and local herbs. Next, unwind as we walk through El Cerrillo neighborhood, decoding powerful street art murals that reflect community identity and provide great photo opportunities.

The culinary contrast deepens as we visit local kitchens: from ancestral recipes at Kulantu and traditional street food at La Lupe, to avant-garde contemporary cuisine at the renowned Tierra y Cielo. We conclude with a cacao ritual tasting traditional tascalate at Jangala.

IMPORTANT: This is a tips-based walking tour. To ensure top quality, food tastings are optional and paid directly to our local culinary partners at each stop.

Things to note

Cash is Essential: Most traditional markets and street food stops do not accept international credit cards. Please bring cash in Mexican Pesos (MXN) for any personal purchases.

Altitude & Weather: San Cristóbal sits at over 2,100 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level. The weather can change rapidly and get chilly or rainy, especially in the afternoons. We highly recommend bringing a light jacket, an umbrella, and wearing comfortable walking shoes for the historic cobblestone streets.

Vegetarian options are available at most stops. However, due to the traditional nature of some kitchens, strict vegan or severe gluten allergies might have limitations. Please inform your guide of any allergies at the meeting point.

Cancellation policy

Free Cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity starts. Late cancellation or your non-arrival is not refundable.
