Step into Yerevan's Past: Free Walking Tours with Expert Guides

Looking for a holiday destination in Armenia? Yerevan could be the perfect choice! Don't forget to check out our website for a free walking tour in Yerevan. Our expert guides will provide you with a memorable experience by revealing all the hidden gems and intriguing tales of this historic city.

Journey Through Yerevan: Discover Armenia's Timeless Charm

Yerevan, a welcoming and sunny city, can showcase a lot of the intriguing, captivating, and enjoyable attractions in Armenia. Referred to as the "Pink City" due to pinkish-tinged volcanic stone (tufa), it holds the distinction of being one of the oldest cities globally, established even before Rome. So, what attractions can you visit during the Yerevan city tour by FREETOUR.com?

- Erebuni Fortress, an architectural complex that includes a palace and other religious and residential buildings. To visit it, you have to pay about $2-3 only. Archaeologists discovered halls and temples, dwellings and warehouses, 100 rooms with rich decoration, a square basalt pool from the Urartian period, fragments of frescoes with scenes of sacrifices to the gods, clay jugs with cuneiform writing, Mongolian silver coins, and an Urartian seal.

- Sevan, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Caucasus. Its water is transparent and clean because, according to legend, only stars and gods drank from it. In the event of its disappearance, the primary source of fresh water will also disappear. This lake gained its popularity thanks to clean air, beautiful nature, and a large number of nearby attractions. In the basin of Lake Sevan, the national park "Sevan" was created with four nature reserves and ten customers.

- The Armenian Genocide Museum, serving as a poignant reminder of the tragic events of the genocide. It sheds light on the suffering, loss, and struggles endured by the Armenian people. Situated on a hillside, this free-to-visit, two-story museum is predominantly underground, resembling a tomb in its design. Its flat roof provides sweeping views of the Ararat valley.

- The Cafesjian Center for the Arts, a free-for-admission art museum, built in 2009 and dedicated to the unique contemporary culture of Armenia. Here, you will experience a true spiritual retreat, contemplating objects of modern Armenian art and immersing yourself in the history of their creators.

- Sakharov Square, located in the central district of Kentron and named after the famous Soviet physicist and human rights activist, Academician Andrei Sakharov. Here you will enjoy stunning city panoramas and also learn about the history of Sakharov himself, one of the creators of the first Soviet hydrogen bomb.

Practical Information: Tour Schedule, Meeting Places, and Booking Details

There are two main ways to get to Yerevan. One is hopping on a flight to the Zvartnots International Airport (EVN), a critical hub linking the city to many places in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It handles regular flights and private jets, making reaching Yerevan easy for visitors from all over. If flying isn't an option, your second choice is taking the train. Yerevan Railway Station sits right in the middle, making travel around Armenia and nearby countries a breeze. With its extensive rail system, you can easily hop on trains to explore different parts of Yerevan and beyond – an intelligent pick for travelers checking out the area.

Our Yerevan walking tours usually last around 3-9 hours, depending on the tour plan, route, and guide. These tours are available in English, Russian, and Spanish. For the most recent information on how to book tours and where they start, please check out the appropriate sections on our website.
