Eat Like a Local: A Chisinau Food & Wine Tour
Overview
We’ll start at the lively Central Market, where locals shop every day. We’ll taste different cheeses, pickles, seasonal fruits and other local products - plus one unexpected Soviet-era surprise! Along the way, I’ll tell you how Moldovan cuisine developed and how Romanian, Balkan, Ukrainian and Soviet influences shaped what people eat here today.
Next, we’ll stop for coffee and try the famous plăcintă before continuing to a traditional Moldovan restaurant. Instead of ordering separate meals, we’ll share the table like locals and taste several classics together - mămăligă, sarmale, mici, fasoliță, eggplant spread, different plăcinte and a traditional dessert.
And of course, no Moldovan food experience is complete without wine! We’ll finish with a tasting of local wines, where we can relax, talk about the tour, and enjoy the atmosphere together.
This is not just about eating - it’s about discovering Moldova through its flavours, people, stories and traditions.

I’ll be waiting at the bench area nearby McDonald's in front of the main entrance of UNIC Shopping Center, on Ștefan cel Mare Boulevard, 8.
Things to note
Please come hungry - there will be plenty of opportunities to taste different foods during the tour!
We’ll be walking through the Central Market and the city centre, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
Food and drinks are paid separately and are not included in the tour. At the traditional restaurant, we’ll order several dishes to share, which allows everyone to taste more while keeping the cost reasonable.
Please let me know in advance if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions or if you are vegetarian.
The final stop includes Moldovan wine, but drinking alcohol is completely optional.
Bring some cash in Moldovan lei, as it can be useful for small purchases and tastings at the Central Market.
