Overview

Explore the medieval heart of Brașov through history, storytelling, and authentic local insight. This guided walking tour begins at Modarom (beginning of Republici and Bulevardul Eroilor), where we uncover the origins of the city—from Saxon colonization under Hungarian kings to periods shaped by Ottoman pressure, Mongol invasions, and Habsburg rule.

We’ll bring to life the diverse communities that defined Brașov: Saxons, Romanians, Hungarians, along with Greek and Bulgarian merchants who contributed to its prosperity and cultural identity.

Starting at the old city gate will stroll towards the Council House and patrician merchant homes, and continue to the iconic Black Church, exploring the religious and architectural legacy. Walking along the medieval walls, gates, bastions, and towers, you’ll hear the stories behind their construction and defence.

Our route follows cobblestone streets and scenic paths, including forested viewpoints ideal for photography, will also share location tips to help you capture memorable images.

Designed for small groups, this experience blends history, legends, and atmosphere.

Meeting point

Modarom Building corner of Republici Str. and Buld Eroilor Nr. 17

On arrival

MEETING POINT – Brașov Free Tour:
Meet at the corner by Modarom Building, the distinctive seven-storey round building located at the intersection of Strada Republicii and Bulevardul Eroilor (No. 17), directly in front of the Banca Transilvania entrance.
Your guide will be easy to spot: will have a telescopic flagpole with multiple flags.

WHY THIS LOCATION MATTERS:
This meeting point sits at a crossroads of Brașov’s layered history:
*Medieval era – Site of the former Purzengasse Gate, once the largest and oldest entrance into the fortified city of Kronstadt.
*19th century – Location of the elegant Kertsch Villa, reflecting the city’s bourgeois expansion.
*Communist period – The present-day Modarom building, a striking example of late socialist postmodern architecture.
*Modern history – A key gathering point during the anti-communist protests of 1987 and 1989.
