Overview
During the tour, you will explore some of Stone Town’s most important and interesting places, while hearing stories about the people, traditions, architecture, and historical events that shaped Zanzibar.
You will see the famous House of Wonders, the historic Old Fort, and the beautiful streets filled with traditional Zanzibar doors and Swahili architecture. You will also discover the connection between Stone Town and Freddie Mercury, one of Zanzibar’s most famous sons.
The tour also introduces you to Zanzibar’s important history, including the former slave market area, where you will learn about the difficult history of the East African slave trade and its impact on the island.
As you walk through the old town, your guide will share stories about the Sultanate of Zanzibar, Arab and African influences, Indian traders, Swahili culture, traditional customs, local food, and modern life in Zanzibar.

The meeting point for the Stone Town Free Walking Tour is at the Fish Market in Stone Town.
Customers can easily find the meeting point by heading to Darajani/Fish Market, one of the busiest and most well-known areas in Stone Town. The meeting point is located near the main entrance of the Fish Market.
From Stone Town, the Fish Market is within walking distance. Customers can use Google Maps and search for “Stone Town Fish Market” or ask any local person for directions to the Fish Market.
Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour starts. Your local guide will be waiting at the meeting point and will be easy to identify.
