Overview
Step into the most dramatic chapter of Japanese history on this immersive 3-hour journey through the symbols of war and rebirth. We explore the sites where the fate of the nation was decided.
What we will visit:
• DN Tower 21 (MacArthur's HQ): Stand before the office building where General Douglas MacArthur governed Japan and drafted the modern constitution.
• Kusunoki Masashige Statue: Learn about the legendary samurai who became the ultimate inspiration for Kamikaze pilots and a symbol of absolute loyalty.
• Nijubashi Bridge (Imperial Palace): View the Palace gates while we discuss the chaos and dramatic scenes of the day Japan surrendered.
• Former Imperial Guards HQ: Discover the site of a secret military coup attempt that almost changed the course of the final night of the war.
• Nippon Budokan: See this iconic arena through the lens of post-war spiritual rebirth and reconstruction.
• Yasukuni Shrine (Yushukan Museum): We visit the lobby (free access) to stand face-to-face with a legendary Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter and discuss Japan’s complex wartime legacy.
This tour offers a deep, objective look at the transition from a militaristic empire to a modern democracy.

On arrival
Meeting Point: We will meet at the main entrance of the DN Tower 21 (Dai-ichi Seimei Building), which served as General MacArthur's WWII Headquarters. The building is located directly across from the Imperial Palace moat, right by Hibiya Station, Exit B2.
To identify me easily, I will be standing near the entrance holding a white umbrella in my right hand. I recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early to enjoy the view of the palace before we begin. See you there!
