Split Walking Tour with Local Guide
Overview of the tour in Split
In 1979., Diocletian's Palace was founded on the UNESCO World Heritage list. It is one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman construction in the world. The Emperor's Palace was built between 295 and 305 year as a combination of a luxury villa and a Roman military camp (castrum), divided into four parts by two main streets.
The southern part of the palace was intended for the Emperor, and the northern for the imperial army, servants, storage, etc. It was built of stone from Brač, and decorative details such as sphinxes, marble, and carved decorations were brought from Egypt, Italy, and Greece. During the walking tour, we walk by to see Peristil square and Vestibul, sacred Roman temples and the Cathedral of St Dujam as well as the ancient cellars, the famous Golden Gate, Romanesque churches, Renaissance, Gothic palaces and more.
Our guides will give you many useful tips about local life, suggestions of restaurants and shops to make this tour a memorable one.
