Overview
Did you know Oaxaca is known as the City of Jade? Walk its streets, and you'll understand why: the green quarry stone gives this city a color unlike any other in Mexico.
This tour is for travelers who want to go deeper—those who enjoy understanding the history, art, and politics that shaped this city. We'll explore three eras: pre-Hispanic grandeur, colonial majesty built in green stone, and contemporary art that turned Oaxaca into a benchmark of cultural activism.
I am a certified guide with a specialized focus on history, art, and social struggles. I invite you to walk Oaxaca with the eyes of someone who seeks to understand, not just to see.
What we'll see:
• Subterráneos: a printmaking gallery with a political focus
• Botanical Garden and Santo Domingo: green stone and baroque art
• IAGO: Toledo's legacy and his fight against McDonald's
• Manuel Álvarez Bravo Photographic Center: a colonial courtyard with photography exhibits
• San Pablo Cultural Center: Zapotec ruins, a Dominican convent, contemporary art
• Macedonio Alcalá Theater: Oaxaca's most iconic theater and French architecture
