Overview
We begin our tour at the oldest cathedral in the Americas, taking a close look at its façade and delving into the Baroque art and legends that blend Aztec and colonial cultures. We will continue on foot, passing by Mexico’s first university, its first printing press and mint, and the convent that inspired Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Mexico’s tenth muse and poetess, We will see Mexico’s history through the brush of the master Diego Rivera in his impressive murals, experiencing the Aztec ruins and the legends of the Templo Mayor, such as the Moon Goddess and the God of War, Huitzilopochtli, before continuing to the Plaza de Santo Domingo (or Scribes’ Square) and the house of Hernán Cortés’s mistress.
From there, we will head towards Calle de los Donceles, now the street of the city’s oldest books, where one of the city’s first mental asylums is located, alongside the city’s grand theatre and the first Chamber of Deputies, with its history and anecdotes. We will conclude our tour at one of the city’s most beautiful palaces: the magnificent Postal Palace and the Palace of Fine Arts, amongst many other sights.
