National Museum of Anthropology Tour: Death in Ancient Mexico
Overview
The tour features a selection of artifacts from the Museum of Anthropology that shed light on death in pre-Hispanic Mexico and the gods who accompanied the dead on their journey to the afterlife. The tour guide is a historian specializing in ancient Mexico, a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the country’s most prestigious university.
The tour is offered for cultural and spiritual enrichment for anyone who wishes to broaden their understanding of the concept of death and how the ancient peoples of Mexico viewed it.
Admission to the Museum of Anthropology is 210 Mexican pesos for foreign visitors and 105 pesos for Mexican visitors. Tickets can be purchased before the tour begins at the ticket office or online for the day of the visit.

On arrival
The meeting point is in front of the main entrance to the Museum of Anthropology, where you’ll find the flagpole with a giant Mexican flag, just a few steps from Paseo de la Reforma. There, you’ll see your guide holding a pink umbrella. Near the Museum of Anthropology is the Metrobús Line 7 station, which runs along Reforma from the Historic Center and stops right at the museum; another option is the Auditorio Metro station, about 800 meters from the museum.
Things to note
It is not recommended to bring bulky suitcases or backpacks. Any item larger than a small carry-on bag must be left at the coat check at the entrance, which may involve waiting in line for 15 minutes.
