Mexico City Free Tour: History, Art & Anecdotes
Overview
We’ll start near the Alameda Central and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, then head into the historic heart of the city. We’ll pass by the iconic Plaza Manuel Tolsá, the Plaza de Santo Domingo, and some of the murals by Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, two of the leading figures in 20th-century Mexican art (except on Tuesdays, when the site is closed).
During the tour, we’ll discuss Mexico-Tenochtitlan, the colonial era, and the development of modern Mexico. We’ll also visit the ruins of the ancient Templo Mayor (pedestrian zone) and discover how, quite literally, different eras of the city coexist within just a few streets.
And to wrap things up, we’ll arrive next to the Metropolitan Cathedral, just a few steps from Mexico City’s Zócalo.

You'll find us with yellow umbrellas at the Fuente Rítmica fountain in the Alameda Central, just a few steps from the Bellas Artes metro station.

Important Information:
Visitors may only explore the Templo Mayor through its pedestrian area; entry to the archaeological site is not permitted. Access to the Spanish Cultural Center is subject to the venue’s availability. The Museo Vivo del Muralismo is closed on Tuesdays. Rain is common during the months of July, August, and September, so we recommend taking precautions and bringing an umbrella or raincoat.
