Overview

Step back in time on an authentic 2.5-hour walking journey through the vibrant heart of Old Kathmandu, designed to show you the soul of the city beyond standard tourist paths.

We begin at historic Rani Pokhari (Queen’s Pond), built in the 17th century. From there, we navigate through the winding ancient lanes of Ason Chowk, Kathmandu's oldest marketplace. Smell aromatic spices, observe vibrant local life, and discover hidden courtyards (bahals).

Next, we pass through Indra Chowk, famous for its traditional glass bangle markets, bead bazaars, and the sacred Akash Bhairav temple.

Our walk culminates at Kathmandu Durbar Square (Basantapur), the historic seat of Nepalese royalty. Marvel at ancient pagoda temples, intricate Newari wood carvings, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and the residence of the Living Goddess at Kumari Ghar.

On arrival

Look for your guide standing near the main entrance gate of the Garden of Dreams along Tridevi Sadak (Thamel side). Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour start time.

Things to note

• Kathmandu Durbar Square entry permit (NPR 1,000 for foreigners / NPR 250 for SAARC) is not included in free tip-based tours.
• Entry fee to Garden of Dreams is not included if you wish to visit inside prior to/after the tour.
• Wear comfortable walking shoes.
• Modest dress (covering shoulders and knees) is recommended for temples along the route.
