Warsaw: Between Ruins and Hope—History, Faith, and Reconstruction
Overview
During this walking tour through the heart of the Polish capital, we’ll learn how Warsaw went from being one of Europe’s great cities to being virtually destroyed during World War II, and how its residents managed to rebuild it and bring it back to life.
We’ll start in Warsaw’s historic center and explore some of its most iconic sites. We’ll visit Castle Square, Sigismund’s Column, the streets of the Old Town, Market Square, and various churches and monuments related to the city’s history.
But this won’t just be a tour of dates and buildings.
Through real-life stories, we’ll learn about the lives of Warsaw’s residents during the occupation, the Polish resistance, the Warsaw Uprising, the city’s destruction, and its subsequent reconstruction.
We’ll also discover the importance of faith for many Poles during some of the most difficult moments in their history and learn about figures who left a profound mark on Poland.
