How to leave the Albanian capital without knowing its communist period? At the appointed time, we will meet at the steps of the Museum of National History of Tirana, in Skanderbeg Square, one of the most important points of the city.
We will start this free tour of communist Tirana going back to the mid-twentieth century, where the history of the Socialist People's Republic of Albania, which ruled the country between 1946 and 1992, awaits us.
Skanderbeg Square, presided over by the monument to Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero.
Did you know that it is the largest nuclear shelter in the country? We will learn all about this place, composed of 36 rooms that were built during the communist era, in case of a possible attack or invasion. Our steps will take us to Komiteti Kafe Muzeu, where we will see various objects from the dictatorship period. Then we will go to Checkpoint Postbllok, in the Blloku neighborhood. Here we will see the former residence of Enver Hoxha.
At the end of the tour, we will stop at the Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, which is the last stop together.
