Off-Road Tour: Hidden Rainbow Mountains & Gareji Cave Monasteries
Overview
The journey focuses on the Rainbow Mountains, where the mineral-rich earth creates colors that feel unreal. Because we use off-road vehicles, we can access ridges and viewpoints that are inaccessible to standard transport. You will also explore the 6th-century David Gareji monastery complex, including hidden caves featuring ancient frescoes.
Our groups are strictly limited to six people to ensure a personal atmosphere and a steady pace for the 4km hike. The day includes a traditional village lunch in a remote setting, far from the typical tourist trails. This is a rugged, authentic trip designed for those who want to see the wild side of Georgia in a professional, well-organized setting.
Lunch at Udabno Village and personal expenses are not included.
This activity includes:
- Udabno Terrace
- Mravaltskaro red mountains
- Natlismtsemeli Monastery
- დავით გარეჯის ლავრა
- Small-group tour
- Transportaion
Our Guides
On arrival
Please meet us at Europe Square in Tbilisi. We gather at the open-air parking lot right next to the vintage tram café—look for the old-fashioned tram car. Our 4x4 vehicle will be parked there.
• Timing: Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can pack the vehicle and depart on time.
• Location: Double-check that you are at Europe Square, not Freedom Square.
• Weather: We run this tour rain or shine. The desert hits differently in every season, and the history is always there to be discovered
Things to note
• Physicality: The tour includes a 4km hike with a 350m altitude gain. It is suitable for most fitness levels, but please wear sturdy hiking shoes.
• The Drive: The dirt roads are rough and rocky. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend bringing your own medicine.
• Clothing: Temperatures can exceed 30°C in summer, but it can be very windy or cold in the desert during other months. Bring layers, a sun hat, and sunscreen.
• Exclusions: This tour is not suitable for children under 12, people with back problems, or those with mobility impairments due to the nature of the off-roading and hiking.
