Overview
This 2-hour daytime Free Tour goes through the historic center of Tazacorte, one of the most beautiful and historic municipalities of La Palma.
The itinerary includes the following stops and thematic highlights:
Plaza de España: Starting point and social center. It houses the Hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel (XVI century), dedicated to the patron saint of the island, and its monument symbolizing Good overcoming Evil.
Past and sovereignty: Brief stop to tell the intense agricultural history (sugar and banana), its 3-day independence from the Spanish Crown and its emancipation from Los Llanos de Aridane.
Calle Real: Stroll among colorful Canarian houses of Portuguese and Andalusian influence, whose wooden balconies reflected the wealth of the sugar industry.
Hotel Colonial: Old sugar factory of the XVII century with furniture of the time and history linked to the commerce with America and to the documented slavery.
Urban Viewpoint: Closing of the route with views to the west and the banana plantations. Tazacorte has almost 3000 hours of sunshine a year.
Optional extras: Visit to the only Banana Museum in Europe and local recommendations on fish restaurants, nautical excursions or whale watching.
