Tallinn Medieval Wall, Towers and Bastions Free Tour
Overview of the tour in Tallinn
In the Middle Ages Tallinn had one of the greatest and strongest defensive systems in Northern Europe. Now it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the best preserved medieval city walls.
On this tour, we'll walk along the medieval wall (two of three preserved wall sections), explore its towers and also bastions. These powerful earthworks appeared around the Old Town in the end of 17th century. The gunpowder era forced people to modernise and modify city protective system...
Besides defensive structures, we will see all the main highlights of Old Town High street
Along the walk, we will discuss earlier generation's way of life. You will know how people measured the distance between towers, what medicines they used to treat love pains, how gossipers were punished, why journeymen were obliged to travel and what was the penalty for a horse theft... Plenty of medieval curiosities await to be told. Don't miss out!
