Communist Trabant Tour

Step back in time and explore Bulgaria’s communist past on this engaging free walking tour through the heart of Sofia. The tour starts in front of the Berlin Wall fragment near the National Palace of Culture and runs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Over approximately two hours, we’ll uncover what daily life was really like during and after the communist era. Instead of overwhelming you with dates and statistics, this tour focuses on real stories, personal experiences, and the challenges people faced during one of the most defining periods in Bulgaria’s modern history.

As we walk through the city center, you’ll gain insight into how communism shaped Sofia, its society, and its people, and how its legacy is still visible today. When conditions allow, you’ll also have the chance to enjoy a short ride in a classic Trabant, an iconic symbol of the Eastern Bloc. Please note that the Trabant ride is available from March to November due to emission regulations.
