Overview

Step into Kreta Ayer, the cultural heart of Chinatown, where historic streets and preserved shophouses tell stories of Singapore’s past. We will venture into hidden back alleys brought to life by local artist Yip Yew Chong’s murals, depicting scenes from old Chinatown—from family life to the traditional trades and businesses that once thrived here. Along the way, discover the origins of Chinatown’s street names and the communities and colourful personalities behind them.

Our journey continues to Maxwell Food Centre, where you can grab a local snack or drink while experiencing Singapore's UNESCO-recognised hawker culture.

From there, we make our way to Ann Siang Hill, a charming heritage district lined with restored shophouses and home to one of Singapore's last surviving wells.

Finally, we venture into Telok Ayer, where many of Singapore's early Chinese immigrants first settled. Visit Thian Hock Keng, one of Singapore's oldest Taoist temples, before exploring the Fuk Tak Chi Museum at the entrance of the Amoy Hotel. Together, these landmarks offer a glimpse into the faith, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit that shaped Singapore's Chinese community.
