Sinaia Tour: from the Nest of Bandits to Cradle of Dynasty
Overview of the tour in Sinaia
In 1690, a Wallachian nobleman built a small monastery inspired by his voyage to Mount Sinai; a village developed around it.
In the 1860s, attracted by the area's wild beauty, Romania's first king, Charles of Hohenzollern, decided to build a summer residence here, which would become Peles Castle. Soon, the place became the favorite resort of the Romanian upper classes, who started building their luxurious holiday villas in the area.
Impressive hotels, casinos, modern restaurants, and shops followed, which, by the end of the 19th century, turned Sinaia from an obscure village into Romania's unofficial summer capital.
The tour includes a guided tour inside the Peles Castle (but the tickets are not included in the price and will be paid directly at the entrance - 50 lei per floor per adult, I recommend two), these chalet revival fantasy castles pay homage to nearly every architectural style in Europe as well as including all the mod-cons, such as lifts, central heating, plumbing, and electric skylights.
Peleş contains a large armory collection, secret passages, a hall of mirrors, and everything a fairy tale castle 'should' have.
