Overview
This walking tour offers an exploration of the history of Santiago and Chile, as told through the squares and public spaces of the civic center of the capital city. We will visit sites linked to the different stages of the city’s and the country’s history, from its pre-Hispanic origins and the colonial period to the formation and evolution of the Republic.
The squares in the civic center have served as settings for ceremonies, celebrations, conflicts, demonstrations, and decisions that shaped Chile’s history. During the tour, we’ll explore their origins, transformations, and significance, along with the main buildings, monuments, and public spaces.
Through this tour, you’ll discover how Santiago grew and transformed alongside the institutions of the Republic and how its urban spaces offer insight into some of the most important events in the history of Chile and its capital city.
It’s an ideal experience for those who want to get to know Santiago and Chile beyond their main tourist attractions and understand the relationship between history, politics, the city, and heritage.
