Amazing Rotterdam to Explore and Admire

Rotterdam is a place where one can enjoy historical sightseeing, and modern architecture, and witness innovations at the same time. That is why Rotterdam walking tours are typically full of spectacular moments. There are lots of places to visit and admire here. Below you will find the first five spots we recommend you to see in this splendid Dutch city.

Spots to See in Rotterdam

If you intend to visit this marvelous European city, we would recommend you start with these attractions:

Euromast

It is a splendid spot that offers panoramic views of the city. This is actually the tallest observation tower in the entire Netherlands. You can also have a bite here since there are many splendid restaurants with terraces, of course. It can be easily reached by tram line 8 or bus 32 from the Rotterdam Central Station to the Euromast stop. This journey will cost you €1-3 and will take around 10-20 minutes. Please note that in public transport in Rotterdam, the fees are charged based on the actual distance of your ride. The standard ticket for visiting such a stunning place as Euromast is €16,50.

Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug)

This place is often referred to as "The Swan" because of its elegance and interesting asymmetrical design thanks to which it has become one of the symbols of Rotterdam. This bridge spans across the Maas River. You can reach it within 10 minutes from the city center on foot.

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

It is one of the most splendid museums in Rotterdam. It hosts vast collections of Dutch and European art - from the Middle Ages to contemporary art. You can see the artworks of Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Dali. The museum is located 2 km away from the city center and can be reached within 35 minutes on foot or by tram (line 7 or 8 from the Rotterdam Central Station). The latter option will cost you €1-3 and will take 10-15 minutes. The standard price for visiting this museum is €20.

Witte de Withstraat

This is one of the must-have places to see when you visit Rotterdam. This is the cultural heart of the city with lots of trendy boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and galleries. In the latter places, you can witness truly cutting-edge exhibitions and cultural events. The place is located not far from the city center - only a 20-minute walk from the Rotterdam Central Station is needed. Alternatively, you may take tram line 7 or 8. The latter journey will cost you €1-3 and will take around 10-15 minutes to reach this place from the city center.

Rotterdam Old Harbor (Oude Haven)

This is a historic area that reminds people about Rotterdam's maritime past. You can see here traditional ships, and splendid old buildings, and feel a gorgeous atmosphere with lots of old-fashioned restaurants and bars. This area contrasts a lot with other modern districts in this city. It is located not far from the city center. You can reach it within 10 minutes only on foot from the Rotterdam Central Station or you may take bus 32 or 33. The latter ride will cost you around €3.

Start with these locations while having your free tours in Rotterdam and don't hesitate to extend the scope of sightseeing places to visit.

Practical Tips Helping to Arrange Your Future Tour Better

There are two primary ways to reach Rotterdam – by air and by train. The first option is more suitable for international travelers, especially on a long haul. Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) is the primary one serving this city. It is located around 11 km away from the city center. You can reach the city center via a shuttle bus or by taxi. These options will cost you €4,5 and €40-45, respectively. Both journeys will take around 15-25 minutes. There is also a bit longer way to reach the city center from the airport by public transport. Take bus 33 to the nearby Airport metro station and afterward transfer to metro line E direction Slinge (Rotterdam). This is how you can reach the city center as well. Rotterdam is well-connected to many European states. However, a journey by train may take far more time compared to traveling by air. All trains arrive at Rotterdam Central Station which is located centrally.
