Overview
If you want to experience Rome away from mass tourism, souvenir stores and the same old sights, you will love Garbatella. This district shows a completely different side of the city: quieter, more romantic and perhaps ultimately more Roman? For many Romans, Garbatella is still one of the most authentic districts!
Between hidden courtyards, small stairways, social architecture and lively squares, we discover a Rome that most visitors never get to know. It's not just about history, but also about the atmosphere, neighborhood, politics and the lifestyle of a district that has retained much of its own character to this day.
I live in Rome myself and am studying for a Master's degree in political science. During my time in the city, I studied Garbatella intensively and was quickly fascinated by how much this neighborhood can tell us about modern Rome and its people.
The tour is entirely on foot and includes some stairs and longer walking routes. It is aimed at anyone who is good on foot and wants to get to know Rome from a completely different perspective.

Our Guides
On arrival
We meet at the exit of the Garbatella metro station, the small waiting area directly at the exit of the station is colorfully painted and hopefully not to be confused :)
Things to note
Rome gets pretty hot very quickly, so it makes sense to have enough sun protection and water with you. However, there are always drinking fountains along our route!
I advise everyone to go to the toilet again before the tour, even if we can stop for an espresso at the bar along our route, including a pit stop at the toilet!
