Overview
For over 2,000 years, the Latin Quarter has been home to Roman gladiators, medieval scholars, revolutionary philosophers, and some of the greatest scientists France ever produced.
It wears its history visibly, from in ancient stone walls, Gothic facades, and quiet fountains that most visitors walk past without a second glance.
Join me as we move through time as much as through space: from a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre, to the Jardin des Plantes and it's impact on our understanding of life on Earth. Along the way we'll pass through a medieval student quarter, stand before the walls Philippe Auguste built before leaving for the Crusades, and finish at the Panthéon — where Voltaire, Rousseau and Marie Curie rest beneath the inscription Aux grands hommes, la patrie reconnaissante.
Beyond the famous buildings, I am to give you a living chronology of this neighbourhood.
