Free Essential Oaxaca Tour: History, Art, and Tips from a Local Guide
Overview
We’ll start at the Zócalo, the heart of the city’s social and political life. From there, we’ll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, one of Oaxaca’s most important churches, and continue on to the Church of Santo Domingo, considered a masterpiece of Mexican Baroque architecture. Nearby, we’ll stop at the Oaxaca Institute of Graphic Arts (IAGO), founded by Francisco Toledo—a welcoming space where you can appreciate the city’s strong graphic arts tradition. The tour will also include cultural centers such as the San Pablo Cultural Center and the Macedonio Alcalá Theater, architectural icons that blend tradition and art.
We’ll conclude at the Guelaguetza Auditorium, the venue for Oaxaca’s most iconic festival and a symbol of its identity. An itinerary designed to help you understand the history of Oaxaca through its main monuments and explore everything this extraordinary city has to offer.
