Nagoya History Free Tour: Old Town, Merchant Street & Morning Coffee
Overview
Just 15 minutes from Nagoya Station lies a neighborhood that looks exactly as it did 300 years ago. No crowds, no tourist buses — just you, your guide, and 400 years of history.
We walk through Endoji Shopping Arcade, one of Nagoya's oldest streets, born when Tokugawa Ieyasu moved his entire city here in 1610. Then we step into Shikemichi — a narrow lane lined with white-walled storehouses built after a great fire in 1700. Look up at the rooftops and you'll spot small wooden shrines placed there to protect homes from fire. Unique to Nagoya, and unlike anything you'll see in Tokyo or Kyoto.
We finish at a traditional kissaten (coffee shop) for the Nagoya Morning: order one coffee, receive toast, a boiled egg, and sometimes a salad — all included. Not a promotion. Just how Nagoya does breakfast.
Small groups only.
