Overview
Step into a journey where Málaga’s history unfolds with every step. I’m Igor Francisco Martínez, art historian and local guide, and I’ll take you through a route designed to make you not only discover the city, but truly feel it.
We begin at the Puerta Oscura Gardens, birthplace of Málaga’s earliest Phoenician settlement in the 6th century BC. From there, we descend to the 1st-century Roman Theatre, a living echo of the Empire. Our path leads to Plaza de la Merced, home to the Torrijos obelisk and the birthplace of Picasso.
We then follow Calle Granada, the same street crossed by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487. Along the way, we’ll see the Church of Santiago, the famous El Pimpi, the Picasso Museum, and the majestic Cathedral of the Incarnation. We’ll wander through the Old Town, Constitution Square, Plaza de las Flores, and the Church of San Juan, until reaching the vibrant Atarazanas Market, a former Nasrid shipyard turned paradise of flavors.
You’ll enjoy a tasting of local sweets such as caramelized nuts and artisan turrón. And to finish, a special surprise stop in an iconic spot to enjoy authentic food and drink from Málaga.
