Bohemian Lights: Valle-Inclán's Madrid Tour
Overview
Throughout the tour we will explore how the author turned Madrid into much more than a set: into a living, contradictory and deeply theatrical character. We will talk about the bohemian atmosphere of the early twentieth century, the political and social context of the time, anarchism, criticism of power, and the birth of the esperpento as a new way of looking at Spain.
It is not only a literary tour. It is also a historical, aesthetic and cultural route that connects Valle-Inclán's work with Spanish theater, with artistic modernity and with a way of understanding Madrid from its lights, shadows and distorting mirrors.
