Overview

Want to discover the authentic soul of Lyon? Join this walking tour of the Croix-Rousse, the mythical "colline qui travaille" (the hill that works). I'm Diego, Mexican journalist and resident of this neighborhood for years. I will take you on a tour that combines working class history, spectacular viewpoints and the rebellious spirit that defines the Croix-Rousse.

During the tour we will walk down from the Plateau to the Pentes, passing through:
- The vibrant Place de la Croix-Rousse.
- The impressive Mur des Canuts, the largest mural in Europe
- The emblematic Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse and Lyon's most authentic marketplace
- Viewpoints with unforgettable panoramic views
- The mythical Cour des Voraces and its historical traboules
- Charming pedestrian streets such as the Montée de la Grande-Côte
- The unique architecture of the canuts and the Roman Amphitheater

We will relive the famous revolts of the canuts, discover their secrets, their struggles and their legacy. A walk that links the Roman Lyon with the working class Lyon of the 19th century and the bohemian district of today, a tour full of anecdotes, breathtaking views and a lot of history. Ideal for those who want to know Lyon beyond the touristic.

On arrival

You will find us at the Place de la Croix-Rousse, right in front of the statue of Joseph-Marie Jacquard. You can't miss it: the square is located exactly at the exit of the Croix-Rousse Metro station (Line C). In order for you to spot me instantly in the crowd, I'll be looking for a visible spot and I'll be wearing a flashy red cap and holding an iPad in my hand - impossible to miss! I recommend you arrive a few minutes early to start on time.
