Hanoi Walking Tour: Temple, Local Market & Egg Coffee
Overview
We’ll begin the tour with a stroll around the legendary Hoan Kiem Lake. I’ll tell you the story of the giant turtle and the magic sword. Next, we’ll cross the iconic Red Huc Bridge to visit the Ngoc Son Temple, a sacred site that harmoniously blends Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Stop 2: Exploring the Old Quarter and Dong Xuan Market (60 minutes)
We’ll walk through the 36 streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, bustling with life, motorbikes, and artisan shops. We’ll arrive at Dong Xuan Market, the city’s largest and oldest covered market. Here, you’ll discover authentic local daily life, from stalls selling spices and tropical fruits to traditional textiles.
Stop 3: The Egg Coffee Experience (45 minutes)
We’ll wrap up our adventure at a hidden café in the Old Quarter to sample Hanoi’s famous “Egg Coffee” (Cà phê trứng). I’ll explain how this unique combination of strong coffee and egg cream has become a culinary symbol of the capital. It’ll be the perfect time to relax, chat, and exchange travel tips.

On arrival
Meeting point: Under the Pen Tower (Tháp Bút), right at the entrance to the Ngoc Son Temple complex, on the side facing Dinh Tien Hoang Street. It’s a stone tower shaped like a pen that’s very easy to spot.
How to get there:
On foot/By taxi: Ask the taxi driver to drop you off near Hoan Kiem Lake, across from the Ngoc Son Temple.
Note for weekends: From Friday evening through Sunday, the streets around the lake become a pedestrian zone. Taxis will drop you off a short walk away (at the intersection of Hang Dau Street or Cau Go Street). From there, walk toward the lake to reach the tower.
How to find me: I’ll be waiting for you at the location 10 minutes before the start. I’ll be wearing a white T-shirt and holding a small sign with your name on it.

Things to note
Attire: Since we will be visiting the Ngoc Son Temple, please wear modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees.
Extra Costs: The tour is tip-based, but please bring cash (Vietnamese dong) for personal expenses: The temple admission fee for adults is 50,000 VND (approximately 1.9 EUR), while children under 15 enter for free. Egg coffee costs about 45,000 VND (approximately 1.7 EUR).
Weather: The tour will take place even in light rain. We recommend bringing an umbrella or raincoat and wearing comfortable walking shoes.
Punctuality: Please arrive 5–10 minutes early. In case of delays or unforeseen circumstances, please contact me via WhatsApp.
