Overview

They say that to get to know a country, you have to go straight to the market... And that's what we do! In this tour, we go from the modern Zona 4 to the heart of Zona 1, tasting the local delicacies that the locals eat: shucos, elotes locos, tostadas, chuchitos, rellenitos, atol de elote, ice cream, Guatemalan coffee (one of the best in the world), and more.

We walked through streets full of history, stopping at Chiloé spots like 4 Grados Norte, the Botanical Garden, Pasaje Rubio, Concordia Park, Plaza de la Constitución, and we ended at the Central Market, where you can continue sightseeing, eat more, or buy handicrafts.

We also visited a local restaurant with authentic seasoning. No fancy food here, just real flavor.

We start at 9:30 a.m. and it lasts 3.5 hours.
It's free! You decide how much to leave at the end.
Come hungry... and with ratatouille.

Things to note

Things you should know / General recommendations:
Wear comfortable shoes: we walk for about 3.5 hours, between alleys, markets, and iconic points of the Historic Center.

Bring a hat, water, and sunscreen. The weather may vary, but the Chapín sun never fails.

Bring cash in quetzales. Most places do not accept dollars or credit cards. A budget of Q75 to Q120 (USD $10-15) is recommended if you want to try everything, although the tour can be done without eating, just exploring.

Take the essentials and nothing too flashy. It is best to leave your passport, extra cards, and valuables at your hotel. Use a secure fanny pack or backpack and keep your belongings close by, especially when taking pictures.

Take photos discreetly. Ask beforehand if you are in a market or in front of someone. There are areas where it is better not to take out your cell phone.

Public restrooms are limited. We recommend going before the tour and bringing toilet paper or tissues just in case.

Food is not included. It is up to you to decide what to try and how much to spend. We try to take you to safe local food places where I personally have not gotten sick, but remember that foreign stomachs may react differently.

Be on time. The tour starts at 9:30 am. If you come late, let us know so we can see if you can join later.

It is not wheelchair accessible. There are high sidewalks and cobblestone streets.
