Overview
We begin our tour of Dubrovnik in the Pile area, across from the Amerling Fountain. We’ll walk to the Pile Gate and on to Paskoje Miličević Square, where we’ll learn about the history of the buildings there: Onofrio’s Great Fountain, the Convent of St. Clare, the Franciscan Monastery, and the public orphanage.
We’ll walk along the main street, Stradun, until we reach Sponza Palace, the Roland Column, St. Blaise Church, the Rector’s Palace, and the Cathedral. Afterward, we’ll also visit the Jesuit Staircase, ending our tour at the city’s old harbor.
We’ll not only walk through the main streets and squares, but we’ll also learn where the first public orphanage, the old pharmacy, and the quarantine station were located—and much more. We’ll discuss customs throughout the centuries and today, the way of life during the Middle Ages and the Yugoslav era, and we’ll touch on the 1991 Patriotic War. Our walk will last approximately an hour and a half.
