Inkilltambo Trek Tour: Easy Adventure in Cusco

Discover one of the best kept secrets of Cusco: Inkiltambo, an ancient Inca ceremonial center surrounded by nature, water channels and perfectly preserved terraces.
This trekking will take you through traditional paths, where you will connect with the tranquility of the Andean landscape, surrounded by mountains, native flora and unique views of the Cusco valley.

Starting point: Tambomachay entrance/paradero area.
Arrival point: Inkilltambo (or optional extension to the viewpoint of San Blas).
Estimated duration: 3.5 to 4 hours (at the pace of the explanatory tour).
Difficulty: Low - Moderate (most of it is downhill, but requires footwear with good grip because of dirt sections and Inca stairs).
Main theme: Inca road network (Qhapaq Ñan), water management, ancestor worship and the huaca as a ceremonial and administrative center.

Things to note
Meeting point and transportation: The tour formally begins at the archaeological site of Tambomachay. We will meet in the center of Cusco to take a local transportation together to the starting point (the cost of the ticket is paid by each traveler, approx. S/. 2.00).
Preparation for the altitude: We will walk between 3,700 and 3,500 meters above sea level. We recommend having spent at least one day of acclimatization in Cusco before this trek.
Physical condition: The hike is mainly downhill and of low-moderate difficulty, but includes dirt paths, Inca stone steps and uneven terrain. It is not suitable for people with mobility problems or baby strollers.
Entrance tickets: For this specific tour through the perimeter roads and Inkilltambo, the Cusco Tourist Ticket (BTC) is not required, which makes it an excellent and economical option (Note: The tour does not enter the interior of the paid Tambomachay site, but begins at its exteriors towards the valley).
Climate and clothing: The weather in the Andes is very changeable. It is mandatory to bring:
- Hiking shoes with good grip (trekking or sneakers with cocada).
- Windbreaker or raincoat (or rain poncho, depending on the season).
- Sun protection (hat, sunglasses and sunscreen).
- Snacks/Snacks: Fruits (banana or apple are ideal), nuts, chocolates or energy bars for the road.
- Water for hydration along the way.
