Overview

Welcome to the Red Star Commie Tour, a journey through one of the most dramatic chapters in Romania’s history.

Starting at the Romanian Athenaeum, we’ll walk along Calea Victoriei, where elegant Belle Époque buildings meet traces of the communist era. At Revolution Square, we’ll explore the events of December 1989 and the place where Nicolae Ceaușescu delivered his final speech, one day before the Romanian Revolution began.

We’ll see the Royal Palace, former residence of Romania’s kings, and pass by the legendary Casa Capșa, a symbol of Bucharest’s golden age and a witness to the city’s dramatic changes.

Another landmark is the Telephone Palace, Romania’s first skyscraper and an important communications hub during the communist period.
The tour ends at the imposing Palace of Parliament, Ceaușescu’s most ambitious project. Here, we’ll discuss the demolitions, urban transformation and human cost behind its construction.

Along the way, discover everyday life under communism: shortages, propaganda, surveillance, fear—and ultimately, the courage that led to the 1989 Revolution.

Join me to uncover Bucharest’s communist past and the remarkable transformation of the city we see today.
