Overview
This visit starts at the church's façade of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, dedicated to the Passion of Christ. The History behind this monument is very old and takes us to the 14th century. At the start of the tour, we'll brief you on its birth and evolution to the sanctuary we see today.
This is a sanctuary, so in the past, it was a pilgrimage site, and then it was converted into a tourist site. Because of that, we have today the oldest funicular in the world that moves on the counterweight of water! We'll explain to you how it works. We'll visit the church, where you can take pictures and see a unique altar in Portugal. Later on, you'll see the last steps of the Via Crucis (Stations of the Passion of Christ).
Our sanctuary also has a beautiful garden with a lake, so it's not just a religious site. To finish, we'll take you to a sightseeing spot to witness the beauty of the surrounding landscape!
