Visit Guatavita, a municipality in the department of Cundinamarca, located in the Sabana de Bogotá in the Eastern Cordillera. The municipality of Guatavita has an average altitude of 2668 meters a.s.l.m. with an average annual temperature of 13.2 °C. The Guatavita lagoon is located in the municipality of Sesquilé, the former Chibcha chiefdom. The Muisca ceremony of El Dorado took place in the Guatavita lagoon. In this ceremony, the heir to the throne of the Zipazgo took possession of the throne, thus acquiring the dignity of Zipa.
