Bilbao Highlights

Overview of the tour in Bilbao
For centuries, Bilbao was limited to the area now called Old Town, from where it developed to become one of the most thriving trading ports of the European Atlantic arc. It was at the end of the 19th century, in full industrial development, when the definitive leap to the left bank took place.
In 1876, wrapped in an unprecedented development caused by industrial take-off, Bilbao approved the project of what is popularly known today as Ensanche (expansion). Many local architects, influenced by the international trends of the time and under the motto “act local, think global”, shaped one of the most elegant urban areas in Europe.
More than a century later, the inauguration of the Guggenheim Museum and its overwhelming impact placed Bilbao in the spotlight of contemporary architecture and unleashed the construction of outstanding projects and infrastructures designed by some of the best architects of our time.
And of course, the best tips for you to make the most of your time in Bilbao.
