Overview
We will start at 10:00 a.m. by taking public transportation to Oranienburg.
After an introduction, we will explore the key points of the site: the training yard, the barracks, the kitchen, the punishment cells and the Z station.
Throughout the tour, the guide will make us reflect on the atrocities committed by the Nazis in these spaces.
Sachsenhausen was built in 1936, on the outskirts of Berlin. Its purpose was to serve as a model for future concentration camps of the Nazi regime. During WWII, about 200,000 people were imprisoned there, mainly political prisoners and those considered "socially undesirable", such as Jews, Roma, Sinti, homosexuals and Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as Polish and Soviet citizens. At least 30,000 people were killed at Sachsenhausen, many of them Soviet prisoners of war.
Today, the concentration camp is a museum and memorial preserving the memory of those who suffered there.
A visit to Sachsenhausen is an excellent day trip for those staying in Berlin who wish to delve into the history of World War II and the Nazi regime.
