Rebellious Kreuzberg: From Punk and Squats to Alternative Myth

Kreuzberg was never just any neighborhood. Locked against the Wall during the Cold War, forgotten by the authorities and considered a workers' ghetto, an explosive mix was born here: immigrants, punks, squatters, and artists transformed marginalization into rebellion. What seemed like a periphery became the alternative heart of Berlin.

In this tour, we will visit the mythical SO36, epicenter of punk and New Wave, where Joy Division, Dead Kennedys, and unknown Depeche Mode played. We will tell how the neighbors saved the club with protests and concerts of Rio Reiser.

We will learn about the history of the Gastarbeiter who gave life to Kotti and Naunynstraße, about squats like Bethanien and the Rauch-Haus, about the struggle against gentrification, and unique symbols like the Baumhaus an der Mauer, the hut that resisted the power of the state.

We will see iconic murals such as the Cosmonaut or Roa's animals, explore the controversial Görlitzer Park, and end at the Schillingbrücke, a corner where Berlin's underground spirit still beats.
