Tour in East Berlin: the Wall, the GDR and the Cold War
Overview
From here will begin a journey into East German Berlin that will take us beyond the best-known images of the Cold War. Starting from the place where the division of the city was staged in front of the world, we will enter the daily life of the GDR, between state control, propaganda and personal stories.
Passing through the city center we will follow the traces of socialist Berlin, between propaganda, architecture and urban transformations.
The route ends at the Palace of Tears (Tränenpalast), one of the most intense places in divided Berlin, where family and friends greeted each other before parting ways across the border. Here it will be possible to visit the museum free of charge, which allows a close look at documents, objects and testimonies related to the themes recounted during the tour. The visit is optional and takes about half an hour.
