Overview
This walk connects three unique art experiences in Beijing’s historic Xicheng District.
1. Xu Beihong Memorial Museum
The first artist-dedicated museum in New China. Xu Beihong (1895–1953) mastered both oil painting and traditional Chinese ink. We’ll see his iconic galloping horses, the monumental oil paintings The Foolish Old Man Removes the Mountains, and the legendary Tang dynasty scroll Eighty-Seven Immortals – a masterpiece he saved with his own life.
2. Xihai Wetland Park
A quiet oasis inside the 2nd Ring Road. We’ll walk along the willow-fringed lake, watch ducks and lotuses, and enjoy a 15‑minute breather just like local Beijingers do.
3. Xihai Art Museum
A hidden “pocket museum” inside a traditional courtyard. It hosts rotating contemporary exhibitions (free entry). Learn the inspiring story of its founder, who turned a restaurant into a public art space – “not an economic account, but a cultural one.”
End point: Xihai Art Museum, 8 min walk to Deshengmen subway station.
