Secrets After Sunset: The Hidden Stories of Baku
Overview
This isn't a boring, textbook history lesson. We are going to explore the labyrinth of the UNESCO-listed Old City (Icherisheher) to uncover hidden caravan palaces, the architectural drama of the first oil barons, and the mysteries behind the iconic Maiden Tower. Together, we’ll decipher the symbols carved into ancient stone, talk about how Baku became the world's first oil capital, and look up at the Flame Towers to see how the "Land of Fire" lives up to its name today. By the end of our walk, you’ll know exactly where to find the best local dishes, how to properly drink Azerbaijani tea with jam, and how this city transformed from a quiet desert outpost into the Paris of the Caucasus.

If you can't find me, message me directly on WhatsApp. Don't wait more than a few minutes without contacting me.
Wear comfortable walking shoes — the Old City (Icheri Sheher) has cobblestone streets and uneven surfaces that can be challenging in sandals or heels at night.
Bring a small bottle of water, especially in the summer months when evening temperatures can still be warm.
Baku is genuinely one of the windiest cities in the world. Strong gusts are common and totally normal — it's part of the experience! Just avoid very loose clothing or hats that might fly off.
The Funicular closes at 8:00 PM, so let's manage timing efficiently.
