Overview
As we walk along the city walls of Ávila, we’ll discover the most important sights in the historic centre, such as Ávila Cathedral, considered to be the first Gothic-style cathedral built in Spain. Its architecture will remind you more of a fortress than a place of worship.
On this free tour of Ávila, we’ll also visit the Plaza Mayor, known as the Plaza del Mercado Chico. There we’ll see the Town Hall and the Church of San Juan Bautista, where Saint Teresa of Ávila was baptised.
We’ll continue talking about this remarkable religious figure next to the basilica and birthplace of Saint Teresa. This spot, situated next to the Paseo del Rastro, is one of Ávila’s most iconic landmarks. Whilst admiring its exterior, we’ll talk about the order she founded, the Discalced Carmelites. We’ll also pass through the Plaza del Corral de Campanas, where the Superunda and Guzman palaces are located.
Finally, after a pleasant walk lasting between one hour and 45 minutes and two hours, we’ll bring the free tour of Ávila to a close in the city centre.
