The Sinful History of Piraeus Long Tour
Overview of the tour in Athens
This tour will explore how refugees survived in Piraeus in the first half of the 20th century. We will visit all the important places in the port in Drapetsona, Saint-Denis Church, Nikaia, and on the Piraeiki coast These places echo the life of those outcasts. Most of them lived in dens built on ancient ruins or above the rails of trains, they were breadwinners and loved the Rebetiko. Later, the port was under German Occupation, and they resisted with acts of bravery.
We go coast-to-coast surrounding the Piraeus Peninsula. We stop to see deserted mansions, a deserted train station, a deserted neighborhood, an abandoned tobacco industry, and the iconic deserted Slaughterhouse of Piraeus. We will stop to see the monument of Resistance at Nikaia, We will visit two important churches and two museums: The Resistance Museum in Nikaia and the Museum of the Railway. As the museums are not always open, this could change the duration of the tour. Entrance tickets are not included in the tour price, and you may have cash for your personal needs and snacks as well as offers for the candles in the churches.
