Zadar: Distinct Historical Spot and Resort in Croatia

Zadar is one of the oldest cities in Croatia. While walking along its streets, you can see lots of well-preserved historical buildings. Another advantage of visiting this exact place is the opportunity to walk along the seashore of the Adriatic Sea. This is a splendid location with well-developed infrastructure. Even if this city is comparatively small, you can see lots of interesting places during your Zadar walking tours.

Places to See in Zadar

If you would like to visit this historical pearl, consider the following spots on the local map:

Zadar City Walls

These impressive defense walls date back to the Venetian period. You can not only enjoy part of the local history while walking along this site. You can also admire the truly stunning views of the entire city and the sea nearby. Explore these old fortifications for free. They are located very close to the city center, a short 10-minute walk is needed only.

Zadar Cathedral (St. Anastasia’s Cathedral)

This is a stunning cathedral and actually the largest one in Dalmatia. You can observe and admire the stunning Romanesque façade and interiors. There is also another splendid option – rise to the top of the impressible bell tower. Enjoy truly splendid views of the city there. Visiting this cathedral is free of charge unless you opt for a trip to a bell tower. The latter journey will cost you €2. This beautiful cathedral is located centrally. You can easily reach it by having a short 15-minute walk from the city center.

Roman Forum

Don’t miss this location when you visit Zadar. This archeological site dates back to the 1st century BC. The size of this historical spot is only 45 by 90 meters. You can walk through the ancient ruins that have been preserved very well. This amazing place is located very close to the city center requiring a short 15-minute walk only. Actually, it is also located near Zadar Cathedral.

Sea Organ

This is a unique architecture that is designed and works as a musical instrument! It plays the melodies created by the waves of the Adriatic Sea! The place truly stands out and serves as a perfect location to see the sunset. It is located very close to the city center – only a 15-minute walk is needed.

Greetings to the Sun (Monument to the Sun)

This is another architectural marvel that is located very close to the Sea Organ. The Greeting to the Sun installation consists of 300 multi-layered glass plates! These elements absorb the sunlight during the day and illuminate beautiful lights at night. They even create a truly magnificent light show. This amazing spot is located very close to the city center, it is easily reachable within 15 minutes only.

Visit these places in the first turn to feel the essence of the local atmosphere. Still, in fact, free tours in Zadar promise far more interesting moments and unforgettable memories.
