Overview

Most Vienna tours circle the same landmarks. Schönbrunn, Stephansdom, a wink at Sisi — done. We love those places too, but they are not Vienna. They are the postcard.

This tour takes you into the neighbourhoods where Viennese actually eat, drink, and live. You will see baroque churches that are practically empty, Biedermeier lanes that tourists never find, and the political history that shaped modern Austria — far from any palace.

The route covers roughly 3 km on mostly flat ground, with a 15-minute break inside Palais Auersperg — one of Vienna's most beautiful private palaces, where Mozart once performed.

Highlights: Spittelberg (the finest Biedermeier quarter in the city), the Piaristenkirche (frescoes by Maulbertsch, almost always empty), Justizpalast and the July Revolt of 1927, the 7th District's independent cafés and shops, and Lange Gasse at its most photogenic.

The tour is free to join. You tip your guide what the experience was worth to you at the end. Group size is capped so you can always hear your guide. Tours run daily in English, Spanish, Italian, and German. We start at Helmut-Zilk-Platz, directly behind the Albertina.

Meeting point

Helmut-Zilk-Platz (behind the Albertina)

On arrival

Meet at Helmut-Zilk-Platz, directly behind the Albertina museum, a 5-minute walk from the State Opera (Staatsoper). Take the U1 or U2 to Karlsplatz, or the U2/U3 to Volkstheater — both are a short walk away. Look for your guide wearing a Prime Tours Vienna jacket. Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Things to note

- Wear comfortable shoes. The route is ~3 km, mostly flat with gentle inclines through Spittelberg.

- A 15-minute break is included at Palais Auersperg (restrooms and water available).
- Tipping is how our guides earn their living — there is no fixed amount.
- Children are welcome. The route is stroller-friendly with one or two minor detours.
- Group size is capped to ensure a personal experience.
