Overview
We leave Ljubljana for Nova Gorica and ascend the Kolovrat Ridge, an open-air museum unique in Europe. Among restored trenches, tunnels and defensive positions, we discover how the battles of the Isonzo Front unfolded while enjoying spectacular views of the Julian Alps and the valley.
The route continues to Tolminska Korita, a set of deep gorges and footbridges suspended over the Tolminka River. The turquoise water, rock walls and vegetation create an almost magical landscape. We walk along accessible trails that lead to iconic points such as the Bear's Head and the Devil's Bridge, two formations that reveal the force of water and the passage of time.
After the hike, we break for a traditional lunch in Tolmin. In the afternoon we descend towards Most na Soči, a quiet village by a turquoise lake ideal for relaxing, having a coffee or simply contemplating the scenery.
