Free Walking Tour of the Historic City of Shkodër

Our tour begins in front of the Migjeni Theater, where we’ll trace the origins of Shkodër and its role in Albanian history and culture.

From there, we’ll head to the central square to discover how the city has transformed over the centuries, from the Ottoman era to modern-day Albania. We’ll continue on to City Hall, recounting the events that have shaped the country’s recent history and Shkodër’s rebirth after the fall of the communist regime.

Along the lively Kolë Idromeno Street, we’ll discover the place where tradition and daily life come together today amid elegant historic buildings, cafés, and stories linked to the figures who made the city famous.

Next, we’ll visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a symbol of Shkodër’s deep faith, where we’ll discuss religious persecution during the communist era and the extraordinary strength with which the community managed to preserve its identity.

A stroll through Gjuhadol, one of the city’s most fascinating neighborhoods, where churches, mosques, and ancient homes tell the story of centuries of coexistence among different cultures and religions. Here, you’ll understand why Shkodër is considered one of the most open-minded cities in the Balkans.
