Overview
We begin in the Alameda, Santiago's green lung and symbol of its urban modernization in the 19th century. We explore how this park outside the walls, designed for leisure, was created and how it was transformed until well into the twentieth century.
From there we enter the historic center, with its medieval layout and surprising variety of houses. In streets such as Rúa do Vilar, we observe curious elements such as the "roof peepholes" and analyze the marks of ownership: coats of arms and inscriptions that reveal the ownership of the buildings to institutions such as the Cabildo, the University or San Martín Pinario.
The route continues on the south façade of Platerías, a 12th century Romanesque jewel that looks like a sculptural puzzle. If the affluence allows it, we accede to the interior of the Cathedral. If not, we continue to the Pazo de Fonseca, where we walk through its cloister and visit temporary exhibitions.
We finish in the Plaza del Obradoiro and the Monastery of San Martin Pinario, addressing the disentailment of the nineteenth century and the transformation of monastic spaces in multifunctional buildings.
