Overview
1. Costa Rican Art Museum (Starting Point)
We begin at the Costa Rican Art Museum, housed in the former airport terminal of La Sabana.
2. Paseo Colón & Avenida Segunda
Leaving La Sabana, we walk along Paseo Colón, a main avenue lined with shops and restaurants, before reaching Avenida Segunda, a historic street that takes us closer to the heart of downtown San José.
3. La Merced Park & Church
A quick stop at La Merced Park, a popular hangout spot, where you’ll see the Church of La Merced, an important Catholic church with beautiful Gothic-style architecture.
4. Central Market
We explore the Central Market, one of San José’s most vibrant locations, filled with local vendors selling traditional food, coffee, and souvenirs.
5. Parque Central & Metropolitan Cathedral
We continue to Parque Central, one of the city’s main squares, surrounded by historical buildings. We also visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, the most important church in Costa Rica.
6. National Theater & Plaza de la Cultura
Our final stop is the National Theater, one of Costa Rica’s most famous landmarks, completed in 1897. We’ll learn about its significance in the country’s coffee boom.
